What a fascia cover does for your roofline
The fascia is the board that runs along the edge of the roof and holds the gutter. On most Central Coast homes it is timber, and timber cops the worst of the weather: sun on the north side, rain and salt on the rest. Paint peels, the board fades, cracks open up and water gets in. A fascia cover is a folded sheet of Colorbond steel or aluminium fitted over that board. It seals the timber away from the weather, hides every mark on it, and gives the roofline a clean, straight metal edge that does not need painting.
Fascia cover installation, step by step
- Gutters come off: the cover has to sit behind the gutter, so we remove the existing guttering first. This is why fascia covers and new gutters are almost always done together.
- Timber checked: we go along every board looking for soft spots, rot and split corners. Sound timber gets covered. Rotten timber gets replaced first, because covering rot only hides it.
- Covers fitted: the Colorbond cover is fixed over the fascia, folded tight to the top and bottom edges and finished cleanly at every corner and join.
- Gutters back on: your new gutters and downpipes go on over the finished fascia, and the roofline is complete.

Fascia covers and new gutters, done together
If your gutters are due for replacement, this is the time to do the fascias. The gutters are already coming off, the access is already set up, and you avoid paying for the same work twice. We quote fascia covers and guttering as one job, and the finished roofline matches: same colour, same profile, same finish along the whole edge. Homeowners who replace gutters without covering the fascia often end up with new gutters sitting on a board that still needs painting every few years.
What to do about rotten timber fascia
We see it often: a corner that has been patched and painted for years finally gives way, and by then the rot has run along the board. Once timber has lost its strength it cannot hold a gutter, and the only fix is to strip the gutter and the edge of the roof to replace the board. A fascia cover fitted before that point stops the timber from ever getting there. If some boards are already gone, we replace those sections with new timber and then cover the lot, so you get one straight, sealed edge instead of a mix of old and new.
